Linux Banter

Sad Days, Windows Revisited

So it happened… I made the switch back to Windows, and before you start throwing rocks at me, let me explain.

I have spent a few months now using Linux full time, at it started off great and I was really enjoying it, but then it finally hit me.

I think the best way to explain why I have gone back is to start off with the pros, and then cons of Linux that I have found.

I love the opensource approach to Linux and also how much I can customise it to my liking, and how far Linux as come to be a great desktop enviroment but this brings me to the cons.

Linux as a desktop enviroment is not there yet, now this is a personal opinon and may be different to others but here are my reasons.

  • No support for products that I need to use with study
  • Hardware issue with laptops wireless card
  • The fight over support and userbase

I feel like if Linux had a wider support range for hardware and software it would attract a wider audiance, but that brings us back to the endless battle of; The Software is not supoorted because the userbase is not there, and the userbase is not there because the software is not supported.

  1. Personally I haven’t used Linux before but I have been pretty interested in it, seeing as it’s open source. I love my Windows too much to install Linux on my tower at home though haha
